“If you hear four hooves galloping in the distance, you should think ‘horse’ before you think ‘camel.’”

The human brain is predisposed to the novel. We like grand explanations. If anything interesting occurs, we follow that one symptom down a rabbit trail to the determent of all other factors.

But most problems are the same, especially when it comes to humans. Our motivations and patterns of behavior are really not all that different or unique. We have the same arguments over and over again. We only replace the details. The patterns remain.

If we can learn to spot the patterns, then the accidental particulars won’t confuse us.
