I like songwriters that are smart but not overly clever. I’ve come to deeply appreciate some version of a “story song.” When a set of lyrics can sound like a real life conversation and not a contrived set of rhymes in meters, I’m particularly impressed.
Ben Rector is that sort of songwriter.
His music makes you feel good.
His Instagram account, however, makes me cry from laughing.
For the last 4 nights, any time I’ve woken up this is the tune in my head:
When someone has the ability to write some of the most infectious melodies I’ve ever heard AND be funny at the same time, it’s a comedy gold mine for me.
