Notes on our supposed progress

The Problem with Nostalgia

The problem with nostalgia is it’s lack of honesty. Whether positive or negative, we selectively remember times gone by.

You keep reliving that glorious season from Senior Year? Spending a lot of time wistfully thinking about “the one who got away”?

When we pick and choose what to remember and pine after, we short change ourselves. We deserve to think of the past with happiness and it is good to acknowledge regrets.

However, spending so much time in the past prevents us from acting in the present.

We can’t do anything about then. All we have is now.

    Good advice.
When I ruminate about the past Susan reminds me that I did the best I could with the situation at hand. She has lived her life in large part with the basis of her philosophy of doing the best one can. She has remained generally happy and grounded in the present.
