One of my favorite topics to teach on is Anxiety.
If there is anything I believe to be the “human condition” it is that we are anxious creatures.
Anxiety can come from inside and outside, but I find it’s the inner ones that are really the buggers.
One such way anxiety breeds is we plant our little seeds of anxiety in the soil of rules. Do-this-don’t-do-that.
Something happened to you (and me, all of us) and it made us say “I will always/never do that again” or “I will always/never let that happen again.”
And that serves us for a while. And then it doesn’t.
But we have these rules.
If we are not willing to break our own rules, we are allowing an old self to hold us hostage. We are allowing a less mature version of ourselves dictate when and how – and whether – we get to grow.
Here’s the secret: You made the rules. You get to break them.
